1. Charlottetown Farmer's Market - I've been going to the Charlottetown Farmer's Market for the past year and thus far have really enjoyed it. The Market is located across from the UPEI Campus. Most of the food is prepared for your enjoyment while at the market, or you can take it home to eat at a later date. The market has 55 vendors and is situated inside the market building, most farmers markets are outside. I believe the market opens at 9am and closes down at 2pm however I am pretty sure they allow guests to enter before 9am. So f...[More]

2. Importance of a Domain Name - While watching CBC Compass, an advertisement was on for Suites on St. Stephen. The ad enticed me to bring up their website and checkout the Suites in Summerside. For me, someone who has been around the web for a while, it was easy to remember the second part (the domain) of their website address (blogspot.com). But for their target audience, who appear to be older people or the average joe it might not be as easy to writ...[More]

4. Was I Ever Wrong - Boy oh boy was I ever wrong! Unemployment is up to 11.8%! I guess we took a bigger hit then I was aware of in December! CBC News reports on the biggest rise in job losses in the region was for PEI (1.1% increase in December). ...[More]

5. CBC Now Using Canadian Press Headlines for Atlantic Canada? - Today I noticed the CBC PEI website is no longer showing headlines for Atlantic Canada that were written by other CBC journalist. They are showing third party headlines from The Canadian Press. The CBC hasn't really been good at local reporting during the non 9-7 work hours, in fact updates tot he CBC PEI website are very rare and I was shocked they actually posted the Kyle Bambrick story on the weekend. I hope this isn't a sign of what's to come. ...[More]

6. Charlottetown Going to Decrease Vacant Space Downtown - Charlottetown is planning on making some changes to encourage more busineses to move downtown. A CBC report states the city is going to start targetting empty buildings in the downtown core and get them to reopened for business. A perfect example is the old CFCY building downtown and across from it, the old tweels corner store. The buildings have been empty for an extremely long time and it's pretty obvious there is little ...[More]

8. CBC Cuts Prediction - Our super hour news cast is already lacking and now cutbacks are coming. We get approximately 13 minutes of local news, 13 minutes of regional (and regional) news, 13 minutes of an interview of some sorts, 8 minutes of other news (including overflow national) and probably 5 minutes of other jabber/news. The rest is advertisements/commercials. With 1/4 of the news being strictly for PEI, we don't have much to cut here. We have 4-5 full time local reporters. I have a feeling the Island is going to be ...[More]

9. How I Start My Day - The first few processes on my computer always seem to be the same. The applications that load on startup are Skype, Google Chat/Adium, and MacMail (Mac). The first thing I do everytime I boot up the computer to start the day is to open up my Firefox. When Firefox is loaded it autoloads PEIinfo so I can check both The Guardian & CBC News at the same time, click on any stories that may interest me and read the news. The next thing I do is pop into my email program (MacMa...[More]

10. Almost A Year Later, Lets Change Our Traffic Lights At Night! - Almost a year ago on December 18th, 2008, I wrote an article on traffic lights and how they should flash amber late at night. Here's a summary: Every night at midnight, why don't we have the lights setup to flash red, much like they do in other cities like Halifax or even our neighboring town of Cornwall? As there is a major decrease in traffic at this time, its not going to affect many Islanders and there isn't enough people on the road at that time for i...[More]
