1. Major PEI Development Projects - Oran Canada called it a "minor blip". What is Dyne Holdings calling it? "Campbell said he has approval to proceed with the project if the parking issue can be solved. The developers are due to break ground in March." The Oran Canada project was to build $25 million worth of condominiums on top of the Waterfront Mall in Summerside. Now Dyne Holdin...[More]2. Old Home Week Transit: 12 Riders in 9 hours - My cousin and I decided to go to the live racing at the CDPEC Wednesday, as I am a fan of the horse racing. As I did not wish to take my truck down, we decided to take the Old Home Week shuttle however we were not sure when the transit service left. After taking a look on the Old Home Week website, the City of Charlottetown's transit page, and t...[More]
3. The Police Visit - The local police force ended up visiting our client today after Monday's extremely close successful scam attempt. The policewomen advised our client to reply to his email saying something along the lines of, "your a scammer!". This is not good business sense as there is still a fraction of a percentage that this could be a legit sale. While the odds may be extremely bad, like one in a million, you never know when you'll be that one in a million. Our client ...[More]
4. Charlottetown Farmer's Market - I've been going to the Charlottetown Farmer's Market for the past year and thus far have really enjoyed it. The Market is located across from the UPEI Campus. Most of the food is prepared for your enjoyment while at the market, or you can take it home to eat at a later date. The market has 55 vendors and is situated inside the market building, most farmers markets are outside. I believe the market opens at 9am and closes down at 2pm however I am pretty sure they allow guests to enter before 9am. So f...[More]
5. Downtown Development - When I was a kid, everytime we went to the Confederation Court Mall, we would make a stop at the sports store formerly located where the below image is located.
It is now vacant and I don't think they have had a good anchor client for a while, some with where the Dows Mens Wear (I could be wrong on the name but it used to be between BMO and Cows) used to be. Now, there's a big old empty spot, well its actually been empty for a while.

24 hours ago, there was at least 1 car per block. Tonight, after fines were issued last night, there are none.
Thankfully 24 hours ago I was parked in a private parking lot and not on the streets so I did avoid the fine, my roomates boyfriend wasn't that lucky.

Lets Change Our Traffic Lights At Night! - Dear City of Charlottetown, It's 1:09AM and this night owl is wide awake however the majority of Islanders are sleeping, however all the traffic lights throughout town are wide awake as they are a 24/7 operation. At night, there is obviously less drivers on the road, and from what I've seen tonight they are more apt to break the law to get to where they are going. I feel Charlottetown should give the traffic lights six hours off per night. Every night at midnight, why don't we have the lights setup to flash r...[More]
8. Update: Lets Change Our Traffic Lights At Night! - After The Guardian published my article last week, they have since written up their own article updating people on the traffic lights situation. Seems the city is working on it. ...[More]
9. Charlottetown Bylaws Lawsuit | Laws Not Being Enforced by City? - The Guardian has posted a story about Homburg Invest. Inc. who has launched a lawsuit against the Tweels in regards to their properties downtown. The lawsuit claims properties owned by the Tweel companies in downtown Charlottetown are vacant, under-occupied, derelict, dilapidated, run down, unsightly, susceptible to fire, susceptible to crime and vandalism and are non-compliant with the city’s bylaws or building codes. Are things in Charlottetown t...[More]

11. Economic Downturn & PEI - Has the economic downturn really hit PEI? Kathy Hambly, executive director of the Greater Charlottetown Area Chamber of Commerce doesn't think so and neither do I. I haven't heard of any mass layoffs, except for Bell Canada/Aliant. Then again, when things are going good we don't exactly see lots of new companies coming in adding 100's of jobs to our economy like in the bigger centers. I still be...[More]
12. Charlottetown Going to Decrease Vacant Space Downtown - Charlottetown is planning on making some changes to encourage more busineses to move downtown. A CBC report states the city is going to start targetting empty buildings in the downtown core and get them to reopened for business. A perfect example is the old CFCY building downtown and across from it, the old tweels corner store. The buildings have been empty for an extremely long time and it's pretty obvious there is little ...[More]
13. Tourism Charlottetown - Again Tourism Charlottetown did a great job with another festival. The Jack Frost Festival brought thousands of people to Prince Edward Island during the slower winter months and the economic impact was expected to top $1.5 million according to the report in todays The Guardian. I am a firm believer that Tourism Charlottetown should continue to lead the way in performing such great revenue generators for local business. By pulling such events of, it does nothing but increase t...[More]

15. Charlottetown Police Services - The report on the Charlottetown City police is out. It's a shame that we had to result to paying a third party to come in and tell us what is wrong with our city's police force. In my opinion it becomes obvious as to which sergeants are working as at times it seems there is a greater police presence then others. It's great the moral of our city's finest is so high, but with the recent pictures from the city's downtown fire...[More]
16. CBC Cuts Coming? We might be at risk at loosing Compass again - On Wednesday CBC: Compass hour, Bruce had announced the CBC was looking for more money from the federal government. Then on Wednesday/Thursday the Globe & Mail reported: CBC senior management denied asking for more public money this week. It appears the CBC has an issue with about $400 million in funds. The CBC receives has a budget of $1....[More]
17. The Connector Idea Appeals To Me Too! - Currently the sun is shining and its a beautiful day outside. In fact, I think I am going to take a shot at going to the beach.....err wait. Maybe not. It's freezing raining, its miserable and to go anywhere in this city we must walk through the freezing rain. Not exactly a motivating reason to go anywhere. A connector in the downtown core would make more sense then anything, especially on rainy miserable days. A perfect example is the connectors in Halifax. You can walk to a lot of places without going outside. In Charlottetown,...[More]
18. Maid Marian's On Fire - If you haven't heard by now, you're probably not from Charlottetown or you're not in the loop but Maid Marian's went up in flames tonight, as did the Sherwood Drug Mart. A lot of photos have been posted online with many more on Facebook!
My friend Andrew got some video of the horrific fire and apparently the fire did not start from within the kitchen as someone came into the Kitchen at Maid M...[More]
19. Living Downtown - Every now and again I will get asked what it is like living downtown and if the noise bothers me. Every year I typically say the same thing, nah it doesn't. For instance last year I was woken up more times during Jack Frost (twice) then I was woken up during the Festival of Lights (I didn't get to attend every night due to prior commitments). This year, I am either becoming more easier to wake up or things outside our place are getting nosier. And let me tell you, its the later. Things downtown are getting noisier now that Peakes...[More]
20. Problems Fighting the Maid Marians Fire | My New Close To Home Analogy - A fire fighter was just telling me that when fire fighters were fighting the Maid Marian's fire, they had a problem with the fire hydrants that there wasn't enough water being pumped through the fire hydrant to supply all the fire trucks on the scene. This was caused because the pipes connecting to the main stream weren't big enough and it was causing a bottle neck, thus slowing down the water pressure being sent to the fire trucks. I think I will be using this analogy from now when referring to any bottle necks as op...[More]
21. Island EMS Needs To Rethink Their Decision - It's about 10 minutes from the new Island EMS location out on the Sherwood Road to the old Neils Ambulance locations on St. Peters Road. The ambulance system was moved from the middle of the city, to the edge of the city. Of course this is going to increase wait times for the city and I think we need to get Island EMS back into the city to ensure our ambulances are effectively positioned for any emergencies. Charlottetown makes up 32,000 of the Island population while Stratford makes up another 7,000. Thats 39,000 people which is m...[More]
22. Tweel's Convenience/Gift Store Being Redone? - The old Tweel's Convenience/Gift store is getting a make over it appears. Hopefully, they are planning on putting a new business in here instead of just fixing it up and leaving it looking like a poorly maintained building. Work is even going on inside the building. As I was walking by I noticed it looked like they were doing work on the inside as well. While the city has not done anything yet about vacant buildings, if they make changes to the tax rates on vacant buildings, I am sure we will see a lot more improvements like they...[More]
23. Charlottetown Convention Center This Year, The Bypass Next. Here's Why! - The City of Charlottetown and the Province of Prince Edward Island want to bring a convention center to Charlottetown's downtown core. They want to put it where the Coast Guard currently sits. The problem is, the city risks loosing the Coast Guard. So what options do we have? They could build a really small dock between the Founders Hall and the water. In the parking lot there but that won't work because it will block the water view of the downtown residents (who currently have to imagine what a water vi...[More]
24. Winners And Losers Of Minimum Wage Increases And Job Losses - CBC Reported on the minimum wage increase on PEI. Minimum wage is going up 40 cents this year over the next 7 months. Increasing a company's cost like minimum wage when the economy is in a downtown is a horrible idea. Some people think, oh 40 cents is nothing out of the owners pockets. The big bad business owner(s) can afford to be out 40 cents. That's great and while people view the business owners as a bad person, th...[More]
25. Charlottetown's Getting It's First Roundabout! - Mount Edward Road and Allen Street are receiving a roundabout. The Guardian reports the city reconstruction will cost $3 million dollars and will be finished by November. As commented on before, the roundabout will be a real plus to the city and help save electricity costs, decrease the green house gases as well as cut down the time it takes to get from one side of Charlottetown to the other. ...[More]

27. Too Many Concerts This Year To Blame For Lack Of Ticket Sales - This year must be a record setting year for the maritime provinces. With 10 major music acts coming to our provinces, the 2 million maritimer’s have a lot of options as to which band they want to go see. The question is, can a population of 2 million people support the 10 acts? With the Festival of Lights struggling with their numbers, as well as both the new Virgin Mobile Halifax concert and the new Cavendish Beach Music Festival, I am not sure we will be seeing the big major concerts we have this year. These ...[More]
28. Charlottetown Convention Center, Maybe Not This Year Or Next... - After writing about the Charlottetown Convention Centre I had a architectural company from Toronto contact me interested in more in more details on the plans for the Convention Center and a chit chat about the overall idea. We got talking and maybe for a good 15-20 minutes and the company ended up getting me to take some photos of the area and other possible locations where the convention center could go. Tuesday I ended up going out and taking maybe 20 photos of the area ...[More]
29. The Globe World Flavours On Victoria Row - There has been a lot of work on Victoria Row this winter as Steven Barber and his team open up a second restaurant. The restaurant will be replacing the old Brennan's Pub & Eatery which wasn't in good shape. I give Steve a lot of credit for what he's done with Hunter's Ale House and I hope it pours overs into Globe World Flavours on Victoria Row. Steve has provided me a draft version of the new global menu. The restaurant will feature different menu options from different parts of the world such as the basic Fish & C...[More]
30. CBC Cuts Prediction - Our super hour news cast is already lacking and now cutbacks are coming. We get approximately 13 minutes of local news, 13 minutes of regional (and regional) news, 13 minutes of an interview of some sorts, 8 minutes of other news (including overflow national) and probably 5 minutes of other jabber/news. The rest is advertisements/commercials. With 1/4 of the news being strictly for PEI, we don't have much to cut here. We have 4-5 full time local reporters. I have a feeling the Island is going to be ...[More]
