One of the more important free ways of bringing traffic to your website is having people link to your website. By doing so, it opens up the possibility of people clicking on those links and going to your website which is a great traffic generator.
An indirect advantage is that the more websites that link to you, the closer to the top your website will come up in search engine rankings on sites like Google.
Google compares the number of links to a certain website when displaying their search results. The more people linking to a website, the more reputable of a source the website is.
This is the second major benefit to having people link to your website.
There are multiple easy ways that you can increase the amount of links to your website and only take minutes to do.
Asking other website owners to link to you. Simply emailing them and asking them if they could link to your website always helps in at least one way. You want to target websites that are listed in search engines with the same search terms, so if you have "PEI" as a keyword you want to search google for "PEI". Then target the websites that come up in the first 10 pages and email them asking them to link to you for the best results. Having any website link to you is always a bonus but for the best results, you want sites with the same keywords.
Submitting your site to Google, Yahoo, Bing and other web directories is free and easy. If you try submitting to Yahoo and it only offers a paid listing option, just try another less popular directory and it will work. The less popular ones are the free ones to submit too.
Submitting articles to other websites is another way to build your links. For instance, I am also a blogger with Island Press Limited which helps me build readership and links to my site in return for Island Press receiving content which keeps visitors coming back.
Press releases are another great way to get your name out there and link on other websites. There are tons of websites that allow for press releases to be submitted to their site.
Social Media is a great tool that allows you to get your name out there as well as build links. For instance, Facebook and Twitter allow you to submit what ever content you want on them. Your Twitter profile features a link to any website, same with Facebook. Both are two great ways to build traffic to your website.
