With the rising price of gas, buying items for your car that will make it more fuel efficient is certainly becoming more attractive.
Before I made any engine modifications to my car, I did some research as to what I could add/remove/upgrade on my car to make it the extra miles on a full tank of gas.
One suggestion was a Cold Air Intake.
“A cold air intake is a system used to bring down the temperature of the air going into a car for the purpose of increasing the power of the internal-combustion engine.”
I was informed by a couple sources that a Cold Air Intake (or CAI) will increase my horse power by 5-6 and increase my MPG by 3-4.
Sure its not a major change, but its a start. If I was to continue to make more fuel efficient changes then every change would matter.
Although the CAI was installed last week, today was my first day of running my test as to if the CAI will help improve my fuel efficiency. I filled up at the local gas station for about $54.
Today, I start tracking the changes of my new cold air intake. I figure the money that the Cold Air Intake will cost me would be saved within 1-2 years. The cost of my Ingen CAI was $350 with an installation charge of $60.
Prior to my Cold Air Intake, I could go 225 miles on a full tank of gas. Lets see how far the next tank will take us.
