Cell Phone Regulation July 17, 2008

This is one petition I will not be signing. I am all for lower prices on cell phone packages but I am not for government regulation of our cell phone rates.

If anything government should be encouraging or making it easier for new businesses to offer cell phone plans in Canada or investigating the cell phone companies for price fixing.

The more competition us Canadians see, the more competitive the cell phone companies will get. With the auctioning of the wireless spectrum coming to a close, this will enable more companies to come in and be competitive. Meanwhile, it forces the current big three providers to try and lock you in for better longer term deals, lowering the package price of your cell phone.

At the same time, when the new companies do get up and running in Canada, prices will decline by as much as 30%.
